50th Anniversary in 2021 - Georgetown Choral Society
Georgetown Choral Society 50th BIrthday

50th Anniversary in 2021

Next year will be the choir’s 50th anniversary, and we are making plans as best we can to do something special in celebration, hoping that we will find a safe and workable way to rehearse and perform.

Meanwhile, the choir has been holding virtual rehearsals with Zoom technology, and we are delighted to bring you our first effort at a virtual performance.

Carl Strommen’s “Wings,” among the contents of the Georgetown Choral Society’s large music library, represented a great first pandemic project for the choir: appealing, not too difficult, and especially bearing such symbolism of freedom and liberation when the choir and its choristers were so unusually limited by circumstance.

The virtual audio was collected from choristers’ home recordings to a reference video, assembled and mastered in Steinberg Cubase Elements 10.5. The video incorporating red kite hawks in flight and the photographs of choristers’ faces was conceived of and created in Cyberlink PowerDirector 18 by GCS Artistic Director, Christopher Dawes.

And check out our latest virtual production: “COLD & FUGUE” which seemed to us appropriate in the middle of the flu season, compounded by the Covid pandemic: GCS – Cold and Fugue final video – YouTube

Here is another virtual production we made around Christmas  entitled: “What Child is This” performed by a small group from the choir: https://youtu.be/NA5pbi-oSq4
